There is no such thing as an Artist or Artistic Block!!! If you are an Artist or for that matter any other “Creative” and you do it for a living then making art is your job. Like any other job you must work Every Day or, at least, 8 hours a day five days a week. BUT…as an Artist you actually own your own business…people who chose to own their personal “piece of the dream” typically work a minimum of 60 hours a week and more likely 80 or more hours a week to be successful. With this in mind, an artist must get up and go to WORK like any other working schlub – preferably at a location other than home if possible. When arriving at the studio an artist may not feel terribly inspired on any given day but by doing something as simple as picking up a broom and beginning to sweep up the studio will often bring new thoughts and inspirations. It is the simple act of Being At Work that gets the Creative process rolling. Like a Famous Writer, who’s credits included “Hill Street Blues”, once said to me on the same subject…”I go to work Daily to write… I may not even have a project but I will sit down and pick up a pencil and if nothing else will begin to write my name over and over…the simple process of doing what I do, which is writing, eventually leads me to a more worthwhile subject to write about…Writers Block?!? NONSENSE!!!”
